Jamie Foxx (left) and Electro (right) Are you as excited as I am to see the next "The Amazing Spider-Man" sequel? A few little details have been leaked about the film's villain. It has been confirmed that the villain of the film is Electro and actor Jamie Foxx will be playing him. Now, I remember watching the classic 60s Spider-man episodes as re-runs when I was a kid, and Electro was one of my favourites. I am very excited to see how this turns out. The major difference is that Electro will not be sporting the traditional 'green and yellow' costume present in the comics and cartoons. The producers have decided to take a different approach...
"It won’t be green and yellow. It will be a different color. They (the producers) want something for the future. They want to have it more grounded and not as comic bookie, so it won’t be green and yellow. They want to try new things, like a liquid rubber and things like that, and there are all these bolts and stuff in my arms when they are hanging me upside down and trying to figure out what happen. How did he become this way? So, it will be some new stuff. "In the script, this villain is the first time it’s be written well. Andrew Garfield and Marc Webb both commented on how great the script is, so it should be an exciting time." There is currently no news on a second villain in the film (like Spider-Man 3) but I would imagine Shocker would be a good advirsary for Electro as they share similar superpowers.
I have been a huge fan of the Bond films for years. My brother started my Bond addiction when he first watched A VIEW TO A KILL on the TV back in the 1980's. As I was growing up, he was watching them one at a time. I saw bits from them and liked them. Then when I was 6 years old, I watched GOLDFINGER. Then I was hooked, I had to watch them all. Eventually, I saw them all up until the latest at the time, THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH. Unfortunetly, I was only 8 when DIE ANOTHER DAY came out but I still remember watching it for the first time on DVD. Finally, I WAS old enough when CASINO ROYALE came out to see it at the cinema. I was so excited because I knew Daniel Craig was James Bond and I thought it would be like watching another Brosnan one. Sadly, I was mistaken. I even questioned if we were in the right cinema. I could not believe that CASINO ROYALE was a Bond film. Maybe that's why I don't like the film as much as other people. QUANTUM OF SOLACE was even worse. I started wondering if the Bond films would ever return to their godly old ways.
You see, in my eyes, the old Bond films, particularly the Pierce Brosnan ones had wit and charm. Though some may find that this makes Bond a 'joke', I think it adds brains to the character and not just some brute killing people. That's what makes James Bond different from John Mclaine or Jason Bourne (not that I've watched the Bourne films because they were what ruined the Bond films today anyway). James Bond is more of a hero, an idol, someone everyone wants to be. If you take away the humour and the gadgets and make him more emotionally attached, then he becomes less of an idol and more like you and me; a regular person doing a job. And nobody cares about you or me, we want to see 'Bond'. Why do you think the films have lasted 50 Years? The wit, charm, girls and gadgets need to make a comeback, or I'm just going to start falling asleep. Luckily, SKYFALL starts bringing the wit and charm back. Now we just need the gadgets, and since Q has made a big welcome return, hopefully I will get my wish. SKYFALL also sees the return of the 'Bond Moments' like adjusting his cufflinks after jumping off a crane to a train carriage or hanging from the bottom of a lift (or elevator if your American)
To me, when you watch a film, you need to be taken out of your world and put into the world of James Bond. Then, your satisfaction is in the hands of the producers. Can this film please you? Generally, if it makes me laughor makes me happy, its a good film. Everyone loves to laugh, nobody likes to feel depressed. I laugh at A VIEW TO A KILL, MOONRAKER and YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE; I feel depressed after watching ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE, QUANTUM OF SOLACE and DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER. I can honestly say I have no idea what people see in OHMSS or CR. Probably the two most overrated films ever in the film industry.
I'm sure ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE is a really good novel, but it just doesn't quite cut it as a film.
Good evening guys, I've just heard word that a sequel to THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN is currently in pre-production. If anyone missed it, our review can be found here. If you haven't seen the first film, it is out on DVD and Blu-Ray now!
Apparently, they will be re-introducing Mary Jane Watson and Harry Osbourne.
"If we do [a sequel], I hope I can do it — I hope they'd let me do it. ... They already have a release date for the second one. But no script! So we have our priorities in order." Andrew Garfield on THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN
Now, I don't know about you, but I am the biggest James Bond fan out there and I have been itching to get my hands on some tickets to see the 23rd James Bond film SKYFALL. Luckily, today, after a fully packed booking, I sat through the best 2 hours 20 minutes since I watched the last Bond film the other night.
Now before I start the review, there are a lot of things in SKYFALL which are supposed to be a surprise, so I have set this blog post up so that spoilers are shown underneath the 'READ MORE' tag.
Now, as I said, SKYFALL is full of surprises. Before I saw the movie I expected it to be truly amazing. It actually wasn't as good as I thought in certain areas. The action is a lot more controlled than it was in QUANTUM OF SOLACE and the days of fast-cut action are (thankfully) gone with it. The Roger Moore-esque punch-line jokes are slowly making a welcome comeback and Adele's song beautifully fits with the overall feel of the film; something which worried me about if the song could actually live up to the other themes.
The characters were a lot better in this movie and the dialogue between them turned out better than I thought judging by the trailer. Javier Bardem as the main villain Silva was exactly spot on. He is a psychopathic nutcase whose motives will rank among the best in the series. However you can't help but feel almost sorry for him throughout the film. His comeuppance was rather hilarious.
The return of Q was also worrying after seeing the brief appearance in the trailer, but the way they have included him in the film actually worked better than I could have imagined. Although nobody would ever replace the legendary Desmond Llewelyn or John Cleese, Ben Whishaw did a very good job at the new take on the Quartermaster. Q is now more of a technical computer genius rather than a gadget master, which is sort of a good thing because really it would be quite difficult to come up with new gadgets for this day-and-age where you can go to Poundland and buy a laser watch and an exploding pen!
As SKYFALL celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the James Bond franchise there were careful nods to previous films which includes waving the metaphorical Union Jack flag if you catch my drift. Although they were more carefully placed than they were in DIE ANOTHER DAY which celebrated the 40th Anniversary back in 2002.
Staying on the subject of characters, I was quite surprised that Berenice Marlohe as Severine had a very short role as, what I thought, was the main Bond girl. Her entrance sort of reminded me of the scene in Die Hard where Mr Takagi is shot by Hans Gruber. Nonetheless she certainly added that extra glamour into the film.
Okay this is where it gets to the spoilers so, remember, you have been warned. Only read on if you are totally insane, you have seen the movie or just want to find out what happens. Click the 'READ MORE' link on the right.
Yep, as promised, I'm back from a lengthy absence, and what better way to announce my return but to christen my blog with my first movie review.
Okay, now I've been a fan of Spiderman for years, ever since I was a kid. Unfortunetly, I never experienced seeing any of the films at the cinema (until now), but I have always managed to watch them on DVD. For me, the 1994 cartoon series was the best and as a kid I always loved the movies. And to be honest, I didn't think The Amazing Spiderman was going to be very good. How wrong was I?
So I just got back from watching it at the cinema and decided to write my first review on this blog. When I first heard that they were rebooting the Spiderman film series I was rather annoyed. Everyone seems to know how Peter Parker got his powers (he gets bitten by a spider, his uncle dies, he saves people, blah blah blah...) and I just thought it was going to be another total waste of time.
